Line timing gives readable cues with the least editing. Phrase timing splits long lines into smaller beats. Word timing makes one cue per word when the design needs it. The level is chosen at export, so one alignment can give you several versions.
SRT is the safe default for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, YouTube and most caption tools. It stores cue text with start and end times and very little styling.
